What counts as an electrical emergency?

• Burning smell or visible smoke from outlets, switches, or panels – shut off main breaker and call us
• Sparks or arcing when you plug something in or flip a switch
• Total power loss (whole house) when neighbors still have power – this is on your service or panel
• Breaker that won’t reset – a hard short or backfed circuit; stay off until inspected
• Damaged service mast or downed lines on your property after a storm
• Water contact with electrical – flooded panel, wet outlets, leaking ceiling fixture

What to do while you wait

1. If anything is smoking or sparking, shut off the main breaker at your panel.
2. Unplug nearby appliances on the affected circuit.
3. Do not touch anything that’s been in contact with water until power is verified off.
4. Keep pets and children away from the area.
5. If there’s actual fire, call 911 first, then us.
